Videos and photos, April and May

We will soon have an update on Loki. For now, more photos and videos. As usual, if you get this by email, you'll need to click the headline or the links to get the videos. Here, in Indiana, Loki gets some early driving lessons. [I know that the video is slow, and thus out of sync with the audio. But I've spent too much time transferring this m2ts to mov to YouTube. This is good enough for me!]

Back in California, Loki experiments with a translucent hat, clings to Dad as he rides the steam train in Tilden Park in the Berkeley hills, and floats with Mom in the pool.

Watching the luggage be unloaded after we landed in San Francisco:

Loki is undergoing a pair of tests to determine why he doesn't eat. In the first, he was strapped down and monitored for over an hour, watching how food moves out of his stomach. The trooper in his gastric emptying study:

Loki has an amazing mother. On Mother's Day, we rode the little steam train in Tilden Park. With Mom:

And with Dad:

Spring has sprung. Back in the pool after months away:

Spike:

Post-food, more on his face than in his tummy:

Post-paint, about as much in his tummy as on his face (seriously, if he gets the chance he will suck the paint out of the brush. Got Pica?....... :-) (for those who worry, we can assure you he does not have Pica):

Playing with Jeremy:

Tea time with the twins:

After months of pumping and then months of storage, we finished off the breast milk. The last bag:

Lieve mom, dad and Loki,
The last bag...oh my, I remember when we were with you march 2009. The two freezers were completely full! I also remember your last pump session mom, in november 2009. You gave a lot of efford to take care of Loki!!! Loki, you are so big now, driving cars, swimming again and eating at least a little bit more than before, great! How about the knikkerbaan I gave you? Did you allready eat the knikker? Mom and dad, once again (and I will repeat in the future) you both are hero's to me. In the video's it is so obvious you are both very well connected to Loki's needs. Wonderfull. big hug XXX Marieke
Uncle Martin askes you Loki, to stick out your tongue again. (It will help you learn to eat well.)

That last photo really says it all. Loki has moved from being a baby to being an active, rambunctious toddler. He looks GREAT! What a wonderful beautiful little boy, and what incredible parents he has! And btw, Brianna's first trip after coming out of the hospital last year was to the steam trains...we love Tilden! The little Farm, Lake Anza (I only let her sit at the edge with the g-tube--but now, she's plunging in!), and the Botanical Gardens...all great fun!
Love,
Cheryl

The picture of Loki in the experiment chamber or whatever it is, is so cute. He really is gorgeous.
Miss you all.

We love the picture of Loki covered in paint. He looks completely spent after an all-consuming burst of creative energy.

Now all you need to do is give him a brush while having spinach pulp and mashed beets and all further exams won't be needed.

I WISH.

Of course, matters are a little more complicated but it's true that you have a lively child period. If his name wouldn't have meant trickster, it would have been: volcano.

Love, Kyra. (who happens to be very happy to be far away and be able to give bug free hugs, for Muus is a little hoopje on the couch with the flu)

About Loki Sky

Loki Sky is a special little man. He was a very early micropreemie, weighing only 610 grams (1 lb, 5 oz) after 24 weeks, 3 days gestation, born to an American Father and a Dutch Mother in Berkeley, California on October 18, 2008.

On January 11, 2009, while still in the hospital NICU, his one kidney stopped working. It was repaired after three surgeries. After spending time in three hospitals in three cities, Loki came home on February 17. He struggled with eating, and then stopped in July, leading to 8 days in the hospital, a failure-to-thrive diagnosis, and a NG feeding tube. On October 10, a minor surgery installed a G feeding tube. Another procedure replaced it with a new one, and then again with a Mic-Key button in Jan. 2010.

In August 2010, he and his parents moved to the Netherlands.
