Videos from December and January

Here are video clips of Loki from December and January, including Sinterklaas and Christmas. I divided these into two groups because our mobile phones record much louder than our camera. In this louder one:

  • Loki continues his pretend violin with Christmas songs. (The reference to 'the hey song' is what we call the song 'Punch you in the eye'.)
  • Playing with Mom's dad's side of the family at the Christmas gathering (Warning: this is loud)
  • Playing with clay
  • Singing 'Bingo' as he gets a gift
  • Playing a real violin
  • Celebrating new year's with a sparkler fireworks with some friends
  • Dancing 'disco' in a kids play center
  • Playing in a ball pit there
  • Playing a harp
  • Receiving and playing his new little violin which he got for Christmas
  • Pretend guitar with Mom on piano
  • Acting crazy with the violin. This is one of my favorites. It begins at 10:55 if you want to jump there.
  • Violin duet with Tante Marieke
  • Sledding twice
  • Singing 'Mary had a little lamb' and playing guitar
  • Playing guitar and singing with a video of the song 'The Divided Sky'. If you know the song, you may find this funny. It starts at 15:22.

In this quieter one:
  • St. Nicholas's helper ("black Pete") visits in Dutch style, by leaving a bag of gifts and throwing in candy by the door by Mom's dad's house.
  • Harmonica gift
  • Mom reads a poem with our gift for him (translated below), also a Dutch  St. Nicholas tradition
  • Loki gets an early Christmas gift with a recording from his grandma Nana

Poem:

You are a big boy, not so small,
You say so yourself.
You can also count very well:
One two three, five seven eleven.
Learning letters; riding bike;
Singing sweetly in your bed;
Cuddling stuffed animals; playing violin.
And every time, you have so much fun.
Yes, the Saint can certainly see,
You are definitely no longer small!
Now that you live in the Netherlands,
The Saint thinks that is wonderful.
A little gift for a big "little man"!
Because the Saint finds you to be so sweet,
Dear Loki, I find you to be an amazing wonder-child!

About Loki Sky

Loki Sky is a special little man. He was a very early micropreemie, weighing only 610 grams (1 lb, 5 oz) after 24 weeks, 3 days gestation, born to an American Father and a Dutch Mother in Berkeley, California on October 18, 2008.

On January 11, 2009, while still in the hospital NICU, his one kidney stopped working. It was repaired after three surgeries. After spending time in three hospitals in three cities, Loki came home on February 17. He struggled with eating, and then stopped in July, leading to 8 days in the hospital, a failure-to-thrive diagnosis, and a NG feeding tube. On October 10, a minor surgery installed a G feeding tube. Another procedure replaced it with a new one, and then again with a Mic-Key button in Jan. 2010.

In August 2010, he and his parents moved to the Netherlands.
