July photos

Happy:

With Mom:

At this moment, we asked Loki whether he wanted to walk with us or be carried. He thought for a moment and said "nee nee" (no no). This image captures the realization of independence.

With Dad at Lake Merritt, near our house:

Watching the Dutch (orange) almost win the World Cup:

Walking in San Francisco with our dear friend Courtney:

I (Dad) was recently out of town for work, and Mom took the opportunity to bravely fly alone with Loki to visit family. This is on the beach near Los Angeles with her cousin Nicole and Nicole's son (Loki's second cousin) Sebastian:

With Anna, after the pool:

Again with Anna:

Playing with the twins:

With OT Stephanie:

We recently got, as a gift, a special doll that was custom-made to be Loki's size at birth. The idea is that this will help Loki understand what he has been through. For size comparison, here is Loki with the doll:

And here is the preemie doll with a typical newborn baby outfit and with Loki's doll, who is wearing one of Loki's first outfits:

Here are a few leftover photos from the High Sierra Music Festival. At the Kids' Zone:

Loki and Foxen had a teamwork system for operating a water sprayer:

About Loki Sky

Loki Sky is a special little man. He was a very early micropreemie, weighing only 610 grams (1 lb, 5 oz) after 24 weeks, 3 days gestation, born to an American Father and a Dutch Mother in Berkeley, California on October 18, 2008.

On January 11, 2009, while still in the hospital NICU, his one kidney stopped working. It was repaired after three surgeries. After spending time in three hospitals in three cities, Loki came home on February 17. He struggled with eating, and then stopped in July, leading to 8 days in the hospital, a failure-to-thrive diagnosis, and a NG feeding tube. On October 10, a minor surgery installed a G feeding tube. Another procedure replaced it with a new one, and then again with a Mic-Key button in Jan. 2010.

In August 2010, he and his parents moved to the Netherlands.
