Day 36: Better and better!

Not much to report today. Loki appears to have gained weight to 980 grams. I think he'll hit a kilogram tomorrow! His breathing has been great. Most of the day, his oxygen was around 30% on the SiPAP with the last hours around 25%-29%. Although he had desaturations and bradies at the end of our visit, he had few throughout the day. Mom was able to hold him for a full 90 minutes with no problems, in fact his oxygen was at 22%-25%. Perhaps most importantly, as I said goodnight to him just a few minutes ago, I looked into his eyes, which were open, and saw relaxation, not stress. He seemed very content.

Such a wonderful message!!
I'm so glad for Loki and for you both, Mom and Dad.
I had to smile when I saw the photo of your freezer.
You know, who has a freezer full of this extra important life food??
By phone I've heard this morning also stories from Heleen(Oma) while she stayed with you.
It was nice to hear her voice, back in the Netherlands.
If possible Lijn, try to take also good care of yourself, cause I think it takes a lot of your strength. But I do also know that caring for the one you love, you get a lot in return!!It's true, you are a real hero!
Hug for Loki and a kiss fot both of you. Love Karin.

Well, Mama and Papa,
I knew he would start to put some fat on that little body once he started getting held by you! I am also glad that everyone is cooperating to keep things so quiet and calm--compared to what he would be experiencing in utero, he is in sensory overwhelm, so all that holding and tight wrapping helps, and of course, especially mommy's heartbeat.
My little one has surgery next week, so I won't be in touch much, but I will be keeping up on his progress--congratulations--while there may be more bumps, it sounds like this little boy is very, very strong and determined to overcome every obstacle to being the feisty and happy little boy you will bring home.

About Loki Sky

Loki Sky is a special little man. He was a very early micropreemie, weighing only 610 grams (1 lb, 5 oz) after 24 weeks, 3 days gestation, born to an American Father and a Dutch Mother in Berkeley, California on October 18, 2008.

On January 11, 2009, while still in the hospital NICU, his one kidney stopped working. It was repaired after three surgeries. After spending time in three hospitals in three cities, Loki came home on February 17. He struggled with eating, and then stopped in July, leading to 8 days in the hospital, a failure-to-thrive diagnosis, and a NG feeding tube. On October 10, a minor surgery installed a G feeding tube. Another procedure replaced it with a new one, and then again with a Mic-Key button in Jan. 2010.

In August 2010, he and his parents moved to the Netherlands.
