Oh, this is so wonderful. Holding him for the first time for a hole hour without major signs of stress is HUGE.
I remember this moment - 3 1/2 years ago - still very well, and I remember that I cried because it was emotionally so overwhelming. Here I sit looking at the pictures, and they make me cry again. I am sooo happy for you. Doesn't it make a world of a difference to feel his skin against yours?
It was so good seeing you for a few minutes on your way home to your nap and exchange at least a few words and hugs on Wednesday. How glad I was to be at the playground next to the hospital. I want to reassure you that it really is fine to not call back or email. Don't feel selfish. Loki needs your full attention and focus. And when I call or email, I just want to send good vibes and my support and love. No pressure. No expectations.
I'm thrilled that you were finally able to hold Loki and such beautiful photos of the event. I can even see him peeking out at his mom. Send good thoughts/positive vibes to you all. Nurse Janet
Loki Sky is a special little man. He was a very early micropreemie, weighing only 610 grams (1 lb, 5 oz) after 24 weeks, 3 days gestation, born to an American Father and a Dutch Mother in Berkeley, California on October 18, 2008.
On January 11, 2009, while still in the hospital NICU, his one kidney stopped working. It was repaired after three surgeries. After spending time in three hospitals in three cities, Loki came home on February 17. He struggled with eating, and then stopped in July, leading to 8 days in the hospital, a failure-to-thrive diagnosis, and a NG feeding tube. On October 10, a minor surgery installed a G feeding tube. Another procedure replaced it with a new one, and then again with a Mic-Key button in Jan. 2010.
In August 2010, he and his parents moved to the Netherlands.

Ok, kleine traantjes van geluk hier in Amsterdam voor jullie!
Kus maaike
En traantjes uit Leusden, too.

En uit Berg en Dal (dat telt dubbel; zeker voor nuchtere hollanders).

Oh wat mooi! Nog meer traantjes uit Amsterdam.
And tears from the other side of the world (Leusden telt dus nu ook dubbel) O, what a beautiful morning! We're so glad for you, Mom! Willem en Edith
