Photos: Tubeless and holding by Dad

Days of tape on his face and then its removal made his cheeks red and puffy. Mom thinks he looks like a hamster here:

He looks so comfy snuggled up to Dad. He is so beautiful! Chloe says "Keep up the good work Loki." Please give him a hug from Nana. Hugs and kisses to all. And please tell all the nurses thanks from me. They are all super!!! Also a big hello to Nurse Janet. I do miss you all.

What a wonderful development. And how beautiful and content he looks - finally on daddy's arm. I keep my fingers crossed that he is done with the respirator.

Love and hugs.

How great, also for you dad! Can imagine this is strange, weird and a true experience.
I will pay extra thoughts to Loki so he can stay removed from the resparator. Good luck!! X

Dearest Jesse and Kathalijn,
How wonderful, how amazing to see Loki without the tube, his eyes open!!
Must be such a comfortable feeling for him.
To me Loki has the same eyes as his Dad.
How nice and also emotional for Jesse to hold his son for the first time. Please Loki, keep on fighting!!!!
We all keep on encouraging you to do so!! I will keep on chanting for you.
Liefs voor grandma Heleentje and all of you. Kus van Karin.

Congratulations dad, on holding Loki for the first time. What an experience for the both of you.
We are happy with the news of the removal of the respirator. The candles are burning for Loki, and for mom and dad to hold on to the good things.

Hi wow!

I am amazed as to what a mini-mini-Daddie (strange but for pricacy sakes, you know who I mean) you have produced! And what a strong kereltje he is! Keep on doing this great feeding Mom. Despite all the medical care, the emotional, physical and milk nurture is your precious task, as it is Dad's. I know the nurses are great, but give yourselves a big compliment too, as does Lokipokie. Let's hope you can be more and more able to move towards this type of parenting, and that his steps forward will be steps away from big sorrows.

Love and talk to yousoon, I hope.

We are so happy Loki is doing so well, despite the infection! And how nice to see his face finally. The first picture made me think of mum, but these showed definitely that he is dad´s son! So nice! Congratulations dad! You could finallly hold your son! We are wishing you many many more holdings soon! And mum, how wonderful that you are giving him milk! At what age will it be possible to breastfeed= We are wishing that that moment will come soon! Much much love and many good wishes,
Johan, Suzanna and Phileine

About Loki Sky

Loki Sky is a special little man. He was a very early micropreemie, weighing only 610 grams (1 lb, 5 oz) after 24 weeks, 3 days gestation, born to an American Father and a Dutch Mother in Berkeley, California on October 18, 2008.

On January 11, 2009, while still in the hospital NICU, his one kidney stopped working. It was repaired after three surgeries. After spending time in three hospitals in three cities, Loki came home on February 17. He struggled with eating, and then stopped in July, leading to 8 days in the hospital, a failure-to-thrive diagnosis, and a NG feeding tube. On October 10, a minor surgery installed a G feeding tube. Another procedure replaced it with a new one, and then again with a Mic-Key button in Jan. 2010.

In August 2010, he and his parents moved to the Netherlands.
