Merry Christmas to Loki, his Mom, and his Dad. I have been following up this blog since before Loki was born and I have to agree with everyone that that boy is a Warrior, and a beautiful and lovely one at that. BTW, I am the wife of Gerrit, Heleen's cousin. I am typing from a town up on the mountains of Puerto Rico. I wish you all, Peace, Love, and Health! Take Care!

Warm Regards,

Gerrit and Candy

Lieve mensen,

We can imagine Loki in the snow riding a sled with his hat on! How nice everybody is giving him gifts, even though the dressing up is more of a hassle to him and does not really add to the fun of surviving and growing so well in the big world outside the womb. I hope that one day he will be able to appreciate more the love that is expressed in warm X-mas gifts.

It has been a bumpy road for you this year with LOTS of surprises, not all that pleasant. But foremost your wish for a child has been heard and it seems Loki was always waiting around for that one opportunity he had! As I watch the baby grow into his clothes I see more of the two of you in his face and realize how special it is to create a human being that will resemble you so much, but definitely has its own logic and biorhythm.

It is a great challenge to your relationship to each other, especially when so many precautions need to be taken each time to keep your kid healthy. but in the end Loki is your love gift. A real christmas baby, so the nurse was right to knit him a wonderful hat to stress that once again. Cherish this little creature and cherish each other, it might sometimes seem silly, but you need each other as much as he needs you.

Big hugs and love and a lovely Christmas and many great moments to come in 2009 from Kyra, Erwin, Muus and Lova.

I will only add that we miss you all very much. Have a very happy first Christmas with the precious little dude and hugs and kisses to all. We send wishes to our family and friends in Holland as well. Hugs and kisses.......Mark and Nana

About Loki Sky

Loki Sky is a special little man. He was a very early micropreemie, weighing only 610 grams (1 lb, 5 oz) after 24 weeks, 3 days gestation, born to an American Father and a Dutch Mother in Berkeley, California on October 18, 2008.

On January 11, 2009, while still in the hospital NICU, his one kidney stopped working. It was repaired after three surgeries. After spending time in three hospitals in three cities, Loki came home on February 17. He struggled with eating, and then stopped in July, leading to 8 days in the hospital, a failure-to-thrive diagnosis, and a NG feeding tube. On October 10, a minor surgery installed a G feeding tube. Another procedure replaced it with a new one, and then again with a Mic-Key button in Jan. 2010.

In August 2010, he and his parents moved to the Netherlands.
