Loki at home!

After 121 days, three hospitals, two surgeries, plenty of ups and downs, and innumerable tears, Loki is now home. Mom is giving him a bottle now, in the rocking chair. There is little that can said that has not already been said.

A word on visitors: Of course, we'd love to see you. But we need to pace ourselves. And we must be extremely cautious about germs. So please do not take offense if we say, "Not now," to a potential visit, or if we grill you about potential exposure to anything contagious. Please be honest about if you have had symptoms of illness, or been around sick people.

You can call us at home or cell. We have video chat capabilities on Google chat (name = XXXX) and Skype (name = XXXX). However, we do not keep Skype running, so we'll need to arrange a time a head, or switch once we are on the phone.

We'll continue updates. For now, some photos....

Gefeliciteerd, alledrie!

Geniet ervan, gewoon thuis! Je eigen ritme zoeken in je eiegn omgeving.
Gefeliciteerd! Jullie hebben een wereldgozer op de aarde gezet!

Lieve Loki, mom and dad,
Wat fijn om jullie thuis te zien en Loki zo groot! Hoop dat jullie snel wennen. Wat moet dat raar zijn om niet meer naar het ziekenhuis op en neer te gaan. Geniet er van en wij komen in maart! Dikke kus! X Marieke

Congratulations!!! You two are AMAZING parents--dedicated and so incredibly attentive. Loki has clearly thrived due to your deep love for him. He looks wonderful and it must be heaven to finally be doing with your baby what you always imagined--being a family in your home. Hold him close and rest when you can. We're celebrating for you from up here.

My heart fills with joy seeing these photo's! It's amazing how everything "cleared up" and how Loki got a full breastfeed, all in the last week: ready to be where he belongs. You can be so proud of yourself and the little dudey! Love, Fransje.

Welcome home Loki!!
Dearest Lijn and Jesse.
You must be so intense happy to have Loki close to your heart, while you are sitting in your home with him.
What a beautiful photo's!!
I compared the photo's from Loki now and the ones in the beginning, it really is a wonder.
Lijn you look so "motherly" happy, I can imagine that and Loki looks as if he wants to say "at last I'm withe the ones I love"!
Peace at last.
Hope all goes fine, I'm sure it will be.
Loki is "een kanjer"!
Love, hugs and a kiss for all of you from Karin (Amsterdam)

About Loki Sky

Loki Sky is a special little man. He was a very early micropreemie, weighing only 610 grams (1 lb, 5 oz) after 24 weeks, 3 days gestation, born to an American Father and a Dutch Mother in Berkeley, California on October 18, 2008.

On January 11, 2009, while still in the hospital NICU, his one kidney stopped working. It was repaired after three surgeries. After spending time in three hospitals in three cities, Loki came home on February 17. He struggled with eating, and then stopped in July, leading to 8 days in the hospital, a failure-to-thrive diagnosis, and a NG feeding tube. On October 10, a minor surgery installed a G feeding tube. Another procedure replaced it with a new one, and then again with a Mic-Key button in Jan. 2010.

In August 2010, he and his parents moved to the Netherlands.
