Wednesday news from SF

I just got a report from Mom in San Francisco. Loki is now getting all his food by mouth, either bottle or breast, and his feeding tube is out. Also, his IV and urinary catheter have been removed as well. The penrose drain from his surgical wound will be taken out on Monday. Loki weighs 3240 grams (7 pounds + 2 ounces), which is about what he was a week ago.

If this path continues, his doctor believes that he will come home early next week. He will stay at UCSF until then.

Myself, I will probably still wait to visit the little man, as my minor cold simply will not go away.

I don't want to count my chickens before the eggs hatch. I am merely keeping my fingers crossed. At the same time, bringing Loki home will be a major event in many ways.

Joepie de poepie! Wouw Loki, you can drink everything and the tube is out. Bringing Loki home is ofcourse so nice but also chalenging. A major event in many ways like dad said. He is and will be a "special" baby who is vonarable in health for the upcomming time. But jeetje, it will be so different to hang out with him at home instead of in the hospital. He ho. lets go! You all can do it!

Hey Loki,

Wow!! So nice to hear that you're doing better.
Everyday Suzan visits this blog to see the latest news from the little guy, and Phileine mentions you at least 1 time per hour :-)
We hope to see you very soon in the NL!

About Loki Sky

Loki Sky is a special little man. He was a very early micropreemie, weighing only 610 grams (1 lb, 5 oz) after 24 weeks, 3 days gestation, born to an American Father and a Dutch Mother in Berkeley, California on October 18, 2008.

On January 11, 2009, while still in the hospital NICU, his one kidney stopped working. It was repaired after three surgeries. After spending time in three hospitals in three cities, Loki came home on February 17. He struggled with eating, and then stopped in July, leading to 8 days in the hospital, a failure-to-thrive diagnosis, and a NG feeding tube. On October 10, a minor surgery installed a G feeding tube. Another procedure replaced it with a new one, and then again with a Mic-Key button in Jan. 2010.

In August 2010, he and his parents moved to the Netherlands.
